Why choose fitness at the USC?

  • With your fitness membership you can train at 5 USC locations in Amsterdam.
  • You can follow all small group trainings (check timetable above).
  • Access all the group fitness classes at 4 USC locations.
  • Use the weightlifting platform at Universum, and the barbell platforms at ClubWest, PCH Fitness and ASC.
  • There’s always a fitness instructor present. Instructors provide free training schedules whenever you need one.

Our fitness trainers gladly make one for you, and it’s free! You can always make an appointment. You can now easily schedule your appointment using the timetable above (choose ‘afspraak met de trainer’). Or just ask one of the fitness trainers in our gyms.

The extras

Fit test

For the fit test you do a sub-maximum cycle test in order to check your level of fitness. You receive a matching training schedule. You can do this FOR FREE when you have a fitness membership. Please make a reservation online (check timetable above) or make an appointment with your fitness instructor or at the front desk. Do you want to do a more comprehensive test, for endurance sports? That is possible. Fill in the form at USC sports lab.

Weight lifting supervision

On certain days there will be a trainer in the weight lifting department of Universum, ready for assistance in your training as well as to answer all your questions. In order to use the weight lifting platform you need to have experience in weight lifting. If you do not have any, please take the USC weight lifting course.

Small group trainings explained

• Abs

In 15 minutes you train your abdomen.

• Body weight training

Want to know what a pull-up or inverted row is and how to execute one correctly? This is your class! In this circuit class we mostly do body weight exercises, with the help of some tools such as fitness bands to increase or decrease resistance. We also use kettlebells, bosu, steps and more to keep challenging you.

• Calisthenics

Want to master a hand stand, muscle up, human flag, front and back lever? This is your chance to overcome gravity! Take yourself to the next level and start to train like a gymnast.

• Core

This class focuses on body posture and strenghtening the abdomen and back muscles in a controlled way. It’s not just floor excersises based on Pilates, you’ll also be challenged in circuit trainings.


High Intensity Interval Training. This form of interval training consists of short periods of intense excersise, followed by short breaks. You will improve your general condition, but also your speed and strength by using simple materials and your body weight. All that in less than 30 minutes: worth trying!

• Kinesis (in ClubWest)

Kinesis is a training method in which your movements feel natural and unpressured. This is due to the technology that enables you to surpass gravity in a three dimensional space. You create awareness of your movements, train a right posture, and you focus on the perfect balance between body and mind. These trainings are given at ClubWest. You can use the Kinesis area individually, or during one of the group classes with an instructor.

• Mobility class

In this class you will focus on the flexibility and leniency of your muscles and joints. This will help you to improve your range of motion and thus improve your strength training.

• Outdoor fitness

Want to play outside? Check this outdoor fitness workout. Prawler, huge tires, hammers and rope are the materials you are going to use. The trainings take place in spring and summer from 1 March til 31 October. Only very very very bad weather can prevent an outdoor fitness from taking place.

• Stretching

A 15 min. cooling down with stretch and recovery excercises.

• Stretching & mobility

In this 30 minutes class you combine a stretch and recovery training with exercises that enhance your flexibility and smoothness. It helps to enlarge your motion range and reduce the risk of injuries in power sports and endurance sports.


Synrgy is a big, red fitness machine, that enables a very efficient total body workout. The trainings are 30 minutes. You will be tired. But satisfied! You will do a high intensity interval circuit training with a lot of variation and a high fun factor.

Sports wear & material

Sports wear is compulsory as well as clean sports shoes.


Always take a towel to the gym (see also our house rules). Forgot it? For €1 a piece you rent one at the USC sports desk.


Are you a sports fanatic? Are you interested in various sports? The USC passe-partout is the right thing for you! This membership comprises a whole lot of different sports. Fitness is part of the passe-partout.

Barbell training

Every USC fitness location, except Amstelcampus sport fitness has its own barbell platform.

Power training guidance

At the Olympic platform in Universum for all levels.

• Ladies Night

During Ladies night the platform is reserved for women who want to do power training (dumbbells & barbells) under the guidance of USC instructor Krullaine.

• Power lifting advanced

Guidance for advanced power lifters in Universum.

Are you a beginner and you want to do weight lifting or power lifting? Do a course first!

Train at ASC or PCH Fitness only

For category II and III members there is a special fitness membership to train exclusively at ASC or at PCH Fitness. Please turn to the relevant desk.

Fitness house rules

Apart from the general USC house rules, I agree with the following fitness house rules:

Fitness house rules

  • I always follow the instructions given by the present instructor;
  • For reasons of hygiene, I always use a towel during my excercise;
  • I will not bring any jackets, bags etc. into the sports areas;
  • After use, I make sure all materials are left clean and orderly;
  • I know how to use materials in the fitness and I use them in a proper way;
  • Whenever I am not making use of any sports materials, someone else can make use of them;
  • I replace weights such as discs, dumbbells and kettlebells in their racks after use. I do not leave any weights on the fitness machines or on the floor;
  • I make use of materials in an appropriate way;
  • I use the foam roll and massage balls only in the abdomen area;
  • I can take my shoes off in the abdomen area, but I keep my socks on;
  • I aware that only USC fitness instructors control musical equipment and televisions;
  • I make use of magnesium exclusively on the weight lifting floor;
  • Whenever I make use of barbells, I use barbell collars.
